How to Use Colors Effectively

In my previous post, I talked about the importance of colors. Now lets try to understand the implicit but very powerful language of colors. Colors have long been used as embellishment or decoration. If used correctly, they can convey strong messages. They can attract, excite and draw attention. The effects of most common colors are given in the following table

ColorEffects
Redexcites, increase heart beat, the most appealing color
Greensoothing and calming, improve vision and brain functions
Bluerelaxing and calming, sometimes a little depressing
Pinkthe most romantic color, symbol of love, calming
Whitesign of innocence, symbolizes purity and cleanliness, light and neutral
Blacksymbolizes authority and intelligence, stylish, warm, associated with grieving, can evoke very strong emotions
Yellowattractive, may increase anger, too much yellow is not good for eyes
Brownone of the favourite masculine colors, might have a sad affect, natual
Grayadds maturity, too much Gray appears dull, associated with age and depression
Orangecolor of fun, happiness and joy, increase excitment, particularly suited for young girls

So the big question, "How to effectively use colors in fashion designing?"

Well it is a difficult question with many possible answers. Lets consider the example of dress colors. Which color of dress to wear at a particular event depends on a number of factors such as (i) the nature of the event (ii) skin complexion  (iii) timing of the event (iv) environment (v) climate (vi) and the available accessories etc.

A dark color costume normally looks better in evening parties and when the climate is not hot and wet. A colorful dress is not acceptable at a funeral gathering. So to really enhance your personality, you should look at all these factors when choosing a costume. To get more practical information, on how to use colors effectively, I would suggest you to read the following book.
